Mrs. Veena .K. Thimmaiah
VEENA K. THIMMAIAH (M.F.A, B.F.A), an Art Historian and Writer, has been teaching in leading art and design institutes for over two decades. She completed her Masters in Art History at the M.S. University, Vadodara, after graduating in Drawing & Painting, with Mural Design as an elective, from the Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai. She has written the text “Beats & Counterbeats” for the publication “An Artists Quest: K.K Hebbar” which was released in 2011, to commemorate the artists birth centenary. She has also written the words for the film, “A Tryst with Hebbar, Artist & Innovator” which was released at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Bangalore. She was the art-historian writer, compiling notes for “A Dictionary of Indian Art & Artists”, published by Mapin in June 2006. Her writings on art and related subjects have been published in several magazines and newspapers, including the Deccan Herald and DHNIE, Bangalore and the Independent, The Asian Age and the Bombay Times, Mumbai.
She has conducted lectures on Art Appreciation at the Sakshi Art Gallery Mumbai and British Council Division in Mumbai, and for the Deccan Herald, and the Renaissance Art Gallery, Bangalore among others.
She is a member of the Board of Studies and Board of Examiners for UoM, and is on the list of examiners at Karnataka State Women’s University. She has presented papers at National Conferences. She is also contributed to the syllabus formation of Art and Design related subjects for the MFAD course. She been the Convener of Chrysalis, the National Level Fashion Design Competition held every two years at AIFD. She has been part of Design projects undertaken by AIFD for Central Silk Board and various Army Organizations. She has also conducted workshops on Portfolio development in Fashion Institutes in Bangalore and has guided the students in designing and executing several Murals in the AIFD campus.
She was previously teaching Art History at the Sir JJ School of Art, Mumbai and Art Appreciation at The National Institute of Fashion Technology, NIFT, (Mumbai & Bangalore). At present she is teaching Art, Design and History of Textiles & Costumes at AIFD.
